STUDENT WORKSHOP

INTERFLAM FREE STUDENT WORKSHOP
Developing communication and sharing best practices
14:00-17:00, Sunday 29th June 2025

Interflam is pleased to host a free student workshop on Sunday 29th June 2025. Students and individuals with less than two years post-graduation attending interflam can attend this workshop.

This year the workshop is led by the students from Imperial College London (Imperial Hazelab), UK, and aims to discuss and share the needs, positive experiences, and challenges facing all students. No supervisors will be participating in this event, and open discussion is encouraged.

AIMS OF THE WORKSHOP
•    Allow attendees to meet other students and early career researchers.
•    Learn from other professionals at the beginning of their careers.
•    Discuss challenges, positive experiences, and best practices.
•    Develop wide and long-lasting communications with other attendees.

STUDENT WORKSHOP PROGRAMME

Introductions (14:00 – 14:20)
Introduce workshop and all participants will be invited to briefly introduce themselves and their research.

Ice-breaking activity: “speed-networking” (14:20 – 15:15)

Group discussions: (15:15-16:45)

Discussions on life as a member of the fire community: 
1)    What do you enjoy most about fire research?
2)    What challenges do you have? 
3)    What resources have you found useful?
4)    How do you best network online and in-person?

Post-it boards put together during this session will be digitalised and shared with attendees!

Communication going forwards (16:45-17:00)
How can we communicate during the Interflam conference and beyond, to share experiences and best practices?
